The Green Star Network, introduced by SMC in 2018, represents an innovative approach that actively involves medicine and healthcare product sellers in the delivery of primary healthcare services. The providers under the network play a crucial role in administering follow-up doses of injectables, offering counseling to caregivers and mothers of children under five years, referring potential Tuberculosis (TB) cases and Long-acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) users to the nearest service delivery center.
SMC has recently expanded the service of Green Star network adding the 'urinary albumin and sugar test for pregnant mothers.' This addition aims to prevent potential complications such as eclampsia and gestational diabetes. In the last quarter, SMC organized nine orientation sessions on this new service in five Upazilas. These sessions not only included theoretical discussions but also incorporated practical demonstrations by experts, particularly for selected providers.
Moreover, the network providers counsel pregnant mothers, emphasize the importance of seeking Antenatal Care (ANC) services, promote institutional delivery and advocate for the use of Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) during pregnancy. This comprehensive approach highlights SMC's commitment to enhance maternal and child health through proactive and accessible healthcare services.
