Collaboration between SMC and VisionSpring

 

SMC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VisionSpring for piloting of Reading Glasses for Improved Livelihood (RGIL) project with an aim to increase access to presbyopia screening and distribute affordable glasses for low income population through the Gold Star network of the community mobilization (CM) program of SMC. The duration of the initial agreement is six months starting effective from October 01, 2023 and the pilot phase will include four upazilas of CM. VisionSpring is working in Bangladesh since 2006 by implementing the RGIL Program with the aim to deliver basic eye care services to the underprivileged population of the country to increase productivity and income at the household level. SMC and VisionSpring together aimed for a long-term goal of creating sustainable market-based access to affordable reading glasses for adults in low-income communities. SMC will assess the pilot initiative for expanding the positive learnings in other community mobilization areas across the country. In addition, the team will also explore to include Blue Star Network Providers in the program in near future. According to the MoU, VisionSpring will provide all technical support and trainings for Gold Star Members to improve their knowledge and skills about vision screening and referral services. 

Mr. Toslim Uddin Khan, MD & CEO, SMC and Ms. Misha Mahjabeen, Country Director, VisionSpring Bangladesh signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. Ms. Anne Coolen, Global Vice President-Programs, VisionSpring and other senior officials of both organizations were present at the signing ceremony.
