The Obstetrical and Gynecological Society of Bangladesh (OGSB) organized a policy discussion meeting with the stakeholders on maternal, newborn and women's health on February 2-3, 2023 in Kuakata, Patuakhali District. About 120 Members of OGSB attended the meeting and shared their technical recommendations with the high officials of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW) and Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Professor Dr. Farhana Dewan, President-Elect of OGSB, presented scientific paper on Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) and discussed about the importance of MMS in improving maternal nutrition and reducing the prevalence of low birth weight baby. It may be mentioned here that SMC has introduced MMS across the country which is branded as FullCare. Mr. Toslim Uddin Khan, MD & CEO of SMC shared his views and experience in the meeting on scaling up FullCare in Bangladesh.
Among others, Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Howlader, Secretary, Health Services Division, MOHFW, Prof. Dr. ABM Khurshid Alam, Director General, DGHS (attended virtually), Dr. Ahmedul Kabir, Additional Director General (Admin), DGHS, Dr. Shariful Islam, Line Director, MNC & AH, Prof. Dr. Ferdousi Begum, President of OGSB and other OGSB leaders also attended the discussion and spoke on the occasion. The government officials acknowledged the benefits of using MMS to improve the nutritional status of pregnant women. They suggested to place the formal proposal to the appropriate government authority for its better implementation at national level.
