The Safe Motherhood Day was observed across the country on 28th May, 2015 by the government and non-government organizations. ‘Let every birth be planned, let every delivery be safe’ was the theme for 2015.
Under the USAID-funded Marketing Innovation for Health (MIH) program, SMC implemented a number of activities at district and upazila level through its implementing partners BRAC, CWFD, Shimantik and PSTC and provided T-shirts and caps carrying the theme of this year. Partners also attended rallies initiated by the local government representatives.
Implementing partner BRAC conducted 2,882 anti-natal care checkups for pregnant women through skilled service providers. It organized ‘blood donation camps’ in Comilla and Noakhali and collected 36 bags of blood from voluntary donors. Blood grouping service was available in the camps. CWFD organized bicycle rallies, discussion sessions and one-to-one counseling session with the target group.
The observance of the Safe Motherhood Day is an opportunity to reinforce initiatives taken at government and non-government levels in preventing mother and child mortality, especially at the bottom stratum of the society, and creating awareness among general mass.
