SMC’s Rangpur Area Office arranged a session on ‘Personal Hygiene’ at the Police Training Centre at Rangpur on June 1, 2015. More than 1200 trainee lady constables attended the session. Dr. Munira Begum, who is an MBBS, MPH, EOC (Gynea & Obs) and works as the Medical Officer of Model Family Planning Office, was invited as the keynote speaker of the session.
Traditionally, girls and young ladies, who belong to the lower middle income group, are unlikely to be familiar with the concept of menstruation management. This, coupled with socio-cultural taboos, results in poor management during periods. As a result of this, vaginal infection and drop outs from schools or workplaces are common among young girls and women. The keynote speaker elaborately discussed hygiene concept, social barriers, and threats of unhygienic management during periods. The trainee constables could relate with what the speaker discussed and participated in the discussion spontaneously. They instantly purchased over 400 packs of Joya sanitary napkins at the spot. The program was inaugurated by Additional Superintendant of Police, Rangpur Shamima Parvin. Mr. Sk. Kabir Ahmed, Sales Manager and other officials of SMC Rangpur Area Office were present at the occasion.
